Yellow Desert Broomrape      Cistanche phelypaea

Native to the Canary Islands and throughout the Sahara region and southern Mediterranean basin. Uncommon but long-lived and persistent in favoured locations. A parasite on the roots of saltbushes, bearing no leaves or green parts and only appearing above ground level when the flower spikes emerge.
